I thought you might like to know that Nicky was fourth at the Royal International yesterday, an absolutely fantastic result for him as this is his first season, only his sixth show ever. Going into the ring, he looked truly stunning and was pulled 2nd, ahead of horses like Endeavour who have been incredibly consistent on the show circuit. While the ride judge felt he was slightly green during her ride, the conformation judge Vin Toulson loved him and would have liked him higher I think in the final reckoning! However, I am thrilled with the result and am now hoping we can cap our season by qualifying for HOYS at Kelso next month. He also has several classes at the Ponies UK summer championships in mid August. It is a testament to his breeding that he has proved one of the most consistent coloured horses on the circuit this season qualifying for the RIHS first time out at White Rose, before standing champion at Hambleton (beating Jim McTiffin's cob which went on to stand champion at the Great Yorkshire) in another RIHS qualifier. He has never been out of the top six in any of his HOYS qualifiers, including third at the Royal. His manners, quality, movement and all round attitude are outstanding and I have high hopes for him next year. We hope to do some novice intermediate working hunter classes over the winter, as he has masses of scope, before a full campaign for RIHS/HOYS 2007 (we only started in May this year).
